History
99.9 Gator Country is WGNE-FM, in the Jacksonville, Florida, area, now licensed to Middleburg and owned by Renda Media. It went on the air on 14 July 1972 as WIYD, in Palatka, and changed call signs over the decades. In 1996 Renda Broadcasting paid $6.5 million for the station and another one, and switched it to a country format, first as “99.9 Froggy-FM” and later under the Gator Country brand. In 2005 the studios moved to Jacksonville.
