History
Capital FM in London began as Capital Radio on 16 October 1973, a little over a week after LBC, and was one of the first two commercial radio stations in the United Kingdom. It started with a more general-interest offering, but in 1974, seeking a larger audience, it turned to a pop music format. In 1988 it split into two stations, Capital FM on 95.8 and Capital Gold. The name changed again over the years, and today it belongs to Global, within the national Capital network.
