About
History
RFM is a Portuguese pop radio station, part of Grupo Renascença Multimédia. It began broadcasting on 1 January 1987 as “O Outro Canal da Renascença” (“Renascença's Other Channel”), a second channel designed to reach the areas that Renascença's main signal did not cover, and aimed at a younger, urban audience, with a mainly music-based format. According to the station's own website, it was the one that brought the rotating song list (the “playlist”) to Portuguese radio. Today it plays mainly contemporary pop, Portuguese and international.
