History
WSIX-FM, 97.9 “The Big 98”, is a country music station in Nashville, now owned by iHeartMedia with studios on Music Row. The first WSIX-FM went on the air in 1948, as a sister to WSIX on AM, which had been broadcasting since 1927 and belonged to Louis and Jack Draughon. The station returned to FM in 1959 and settled on 97.9 MHz; in the 1960s and 1970s it was tied to the “countrypolitan” sound, with strings in the mix, and at one point used the slogan “We're metropolitan country”. Today it is the flagship station of The Bobby Bones Show.
