About
History
France Inter descends from Paris-Inter, which began in 1947 as the general-interest service of French public radio after the Second World War. It was renamed France I and, in October 1963, RTF Inter was born, from the merger of the France I and France II networks; the current name was given in December that year, in a competition held when the Maison de la Radio was inaugurated. Roland Dhordain is considered the father of the station. It is part of Radio France and is the most listened-to radio station in the country, with more than 7 million listeners a day.
