About
History
LBC went on the air on 8 October 1973 and was the first licensed commercial radio station in the United Kingdom, a week before Capital Radio; the original name was London Broadcasting Company. David Jessel presented the first morning programme. The licence arose from the Sound Broadcasting Act 1972, and the national news service Independent Radio News started with LBC. It broadcast only in London until 2006 and has been national since 2014; today it is called “Leading Britain's Conversation” and belongs to Global.
