History
Radio Farda is the Persian-language service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty for Iran. Broadcasting began on 19 December 2002, as a joint project of RFE/RL and the Voice of America, and replaced Radio Azadi, the earlier Persian service, which had run since 1998. With a budget of about $8 million, it mixed news with Persian and Western music aimed at younger listeners. Since July 2008 the programming has been the sole responsibility of RFE/RL.
