History
Sanyu FM began as Radio Sanyu, at 88.2 FM, on 18 December 1993, from Naguru hill in Kampala. It was founded by the businessman Thomas Katto and is generally described as the first private radio station in Uganda, which until then had known only Radio Uganda, state-run since 1954. It arrived after the country ended the state monopoly over the airwaves in 1992; Capital Radio followed about two weeks later.
